JBX18243: a singlemode fiber to copper media converter that ships ready to deploy

A gigabit fiber to copper media converter with a 10KM singlemode SFP included in the bundle. Drop one in at each end of a fiber run and copper devices on either side never know they crossed a campus.

Copper ethernet has a hard limit. Around three hundred feet, the signal gives up. So when you need to connect equipment across a campus, between two buildings, or out to a parking lot security camera, copper is not the answer. Fiber is.

What it does

The JBX18243 is a media converter that bridges copper and fiber at gigabit speed. Singlemode fiber can run up to ten kilometers without losing performance, and the converter handles the conversion at either end. Plug a regular RJ45 cable into one side, drop in the singlemode fiber on the other, and the link comes up. Auto-negotiation, flow control, and link alarms are all built in, so the switches on either end see a normal gigabit copper port.

This is the bundled version, so the gigabit singlemode SFP that goes into the fiber side ships in the same box, along with a US power adapter. Nothing else to source.

Why it matters

  • Singlemode reach. Up to 10 kilometers of fiber between two converters, more than enough for campus links, inter-building runs, or extended outdoor camera paths.
  • Copper on both ends. The network sees standard gigabit RJ45 ports. No reconfiguration on the switch or the device. Auto-negotiation handles the speed match.
  • Pair-deploy ready. A typical install uses two converters, one at each end of the fiber. Buy a pair, or buy one if the destination already has compatible fiber gear.
  • Bundle in the box. The matching singlemode SFP and a US power adapter are included. Drop in, power up, link comes up.

Where it gets used

Security cameras run into the copper distance wall constantly. Cat6 caps at three hundred feet, and parking garages, perimeter fences, and outdoor venue cameras are routinely farther than that. A pair of JBX18243 converters lets the camera stay copper-fed while the long run between the camera and the NVR rides on fiber.

The same shape works for inter-building campus links, point-to-point runs across a bridge or under a road, and any retail or commercial site where the equipment lives in one place and the network closet lives in another.

In the box

One JBX18243 media converter, one gigabit singlemode SFP, one US power adapter.
